# Why isn't my business showing up on ChatGPT?

You rank on Google but ChatGPT names other businesses. What OpenAI and Google actually say, and five things you can check yourself.

You are on the first page of Google. Someone asks ChatGPT the same question and gets other names. Why?

Being on Google and being in a ChatGPT answer are not the same thing. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode build on its regular search systems and index, so good SEO still matters there. ChatGPT is a separate product. OpenAI says ChatGPT search uses its own crawler, OAI-SearchBot, sometimes works with other search providers, and does not guarantee that any site appears.

There is no button that makes you appear. Start with these checks.

## What can I check if my business does not appear in ChatGPT?

## 1. Did ChatGPT search the web for that answer?

OpenAI says ChatGPT may search the web when a question needs current information, and that you can choose Search yourself. When it searches, the answer may show Sources. An answer given without a web search tells you little about whether your business can be found online. Ask again with Search selected.

## 2. Can OpenAI's search crawler reach your site?

OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT search answers, apart from plain navigational links. It also says your hosting or CDN must allow traffic from the IP addresses OpenAI publishes for its search crawler. Ask whoever manages your website to check both. OpenAI says its systems take about a day to adjust after a robots.txt change; that is not a date by which answers will change.

## 3. Can it describe your services page correctly?

Use the page test from our guide on checking your AI visibility: share your services page, ask what it offers, and compare the answer with the page. This shows whether it explained that page this time. It does not show whether ChatGPT would find or recommend you on its own.

## 4. Are your business details accurate wherever you publish them?

Check your website, your Google Business Profile if you have one, and your directory listings. Correct outdated or conflicting information about your name, services and the areas you serve. The facts should agree; the wording does not have to be identical.

## 5. Three situations worth ruling out

- A new business: if the Sources never mention you, there may simply be little written about you yet. Make sure your own site and profiles exist and are public.
- An ambiguous name: if your name is a common word or shared with another company, ask with your city and service, and check whether the answer confuses you with someone else.
- Old information: OpenAI says results and citations can be incomplete or outdated. If you changed a page recently, note the date and check again later.

## Keep a simple record

For each check, write down the date, the exact question, the city and language you used, whether Search was on, and the answer and sources. In ChatGPT, use a Temporary chat set to Unpersonalized. We suggest repeating the same question after two weeks and noting what you changed in between.

Can it find you? Can it read you? Can it trust what it reads? These checks look at the first two. The third is not something a quick self-check can measure.

AI gives different answers to different people, at different times and to different wordings. Nobody can promise what it will say. We make the information about your business clear and track what AI actually says about you.
